CONTENT

AAG’s MPL program is divided into five key phases:

PHASE 1

GROUND SCHOOL

The ground school training complies with the ATPL syllabus of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This phase is divided into three modules, with each featuring a mix of classroom lessons and computer-based training. It is carefully designed to equip cadets with the theoretical knowledge and principles required to acquire an MPL. Here is a breakdown the subjects included in each module:

MODULE 1

  • Air Law
  • Aircraft General Knowledge (Part 1)
  • Mass and balance
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Principles of Flight
  • Communications

MODULE 2

  • Aircraft General Knowledge (Part 2)
  • Flight Instruments
  • Meteorology
  • General Navigation

MODULE 3

  • Aircraft Performance
  • Operational Procedures
  • Flight Planning
  • Radio Navigation

PHASE 2

CORE FLYING PHASE

In this particular phase, cadets are required to complete 70 hours of training in a single-engine aircraft. In addition, they will be equipped with valuable knowledge regarding the following topics:

  • Aircraft Familiarization
  • Aircraft Handling
  • Climbing and Descending
  • Turns
  • Circuits
  • Threat and Error Management
  • Navigation
  • Basic Instrument Flying
  • Precautionary Landings
  • Emergency Landings
  • Emergency Drills
  • Solo Flight
  • Night Flying

PHASE 3

BASIC FLYING PHASE

This particular phase utilizes the knowledge and skills acquired during the previous two phases while introducing cadets to the multi-crew cockpit environment. Considerable time is given to mastering the fundamental theories, while 68 hours will be spent training in the simulator. This phase covers the following skills:

  • Crew Resource Management (CRM)
  • Threat and Error Management (TEM)
  • Multi-Engine Jet Handling
  • Advanced Instrument Flying
  • Approaches and “Go-Arounds”
  • Loss of Communication
  • Evaluations

PHASE 4

INTERMEDIATE FLYING PHASE

This phase also includes ground schooling for the Airbus A320 type conversion program using Computer Based Training and training on the Airbus A320’s Flight Management System and the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor. Cadets will also be taught and assessed on how to process available information and then manage situations to ensure a safe landing of the aircraft. This phase covers the following skills:

  • Introduction to Airbus A320 Operations
  • Airbus A320 Systems
  • Flight Management System
  • Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor
  • Standard Operating Procedures for Airlines
  • Departure, Approach and Landing
  • Consolidation Scenarios
  • Route Change Scenarios
  • Ground Operation Scenarios

PHASE 5

ADVANCED FLYING PHASE

The final training phase trains cadets to operate the Airbus A320 in an airline environment. This course takes fifteen 4-hour sessions in the Airbus A320 Level D Full Flight Simulator. The sessions allow cadets to experience a full range of emergency situations and weather conditions in a safe and secure environment. This phase covers the following skills:

  • Threat and Error Management
  • Take-Offs from Contaminated Runways
  • Rejected Take-Off Procedures
  • Non-Precision Approaches
  • Landing Gear Malfunctions
  • Recovery Maneuvers
  • Engine Failures, Fires and Severe Damage to the Aircraft
  • Navigating through Thunderstorms, Wind Shears and other Adverse Meteorological Conditions
  • Abnormal Procedures, Cautions and Malfunctions

Upon completion of this phase, cadets will be equipped for the License Skill Test (LST).
