Alpha Aviation Group (AAG)

From Licensed Pilot to Airline-Ready: The Airbus Type Rating Journey

For licensed pilots, advancing into the flight deck of a commercial jetliner is the ultimate career milestone. Whether transitioning from general aviation, upgrading to a new aircraft type, or maintaining proficiency, structured simulator training programs are essential to becoming airline-ready.

Full-flight simulators replicate real-world airline operations with exceptional realism—allowing pilots to practice complex procedures and rare emergency scenarios in a controlled, safe environment. Simulator training builds not just technical skill, but confidence, judgement, and professionalism.

At Alpha Aviation Group (AAG), the Airbus A320/ A330 training programs are designed to transform qualified pilots into confident, competent, and airline-ready jet operators. Each course integrates systems knowledge, SOP application, automation management, and scenario-based training aligned with real-world airline operations.

Delivered across key global training hubs in India, the Philippines, and Indonesia, AAG provides aspiring airline pilots with access to world-class full-flight simulator programs that meet international regulatory requirements and airline standards – ensuring graduates are prepared to perform safely, efficiently, and professionally in today’s dynamic aviation environment.

Typical Airbus A320 & A330 Type Rating Pathways

The Airbus A320 and A330 families form the backbone of global short to medium-haul operations. For many pilots, it represents their first step into commercial airline flying. To support this transition, several structured training pathways are usually available.

Initial Type Rating

The Airbus A320 Initial Type Rating specifically prepares licensed commercial pilots to successfully transition to the Airbus A320. Through a progressive blend of ground school, fixed-base training, and full flight simulator sessions, pilots develop the competencies required to operate the aircraft safely, efficiently, and in compliance with global regulatory and airline standards. Training typically spans 1.5–2 months, culminating in readiness for official type endorsement.

Transition Type Rating

For pilots already experienced on other aircraft types, transition courses provide a faster route, concentrating on Airbus-specific systems, SOPs, and operational techniques. These programs generally run 1.5–2 months.

Recurrent & Recency Training

To maintain regulatory compliance and operational proficiency, AAG conducts periodic training and proficiency checks to ensure that pilots remain competent, current, and legally qualified to operate an aircraft. The type and extent of training required depend on the pilot’s last flight activity and most recent proficiency check.

Instructor (SFI) Programs

Experienced Airbus pilots can progress into training roles through Simulator Flight Instructor courses, developing instructional, evaluation, and simulator management competencies. This course prepares experienced pilots to become certified A320 Simulator Flight Instructors and A330 Simulator Flight Instructors.

Supporting Courses for Airline Readiness

To ensure a smooth transition into jet operations, AAG also provides essential preparatory training, including:

  • Jet Orientation / Introduction Training (JOT/JIT)  for pilots transitioning to jet aircraft by providing the essential knowledge and skills needed for safe, high-performance, multi-crew turbine operations.
  • Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) for effective teamwork in a multi-pilot cockpit. It focuses on communication, coordination, and decision-making to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) to enhance pilot safety by developing the ability to prevent, recognize, and recover from aircraft upsets.
  • For pilots moving between Airbus types, Cross-Crew Qualification (CCQ) trains pilots to operate different aircraft types or variants within the same fleet, familiarizing them with type-specific procedures and systems. For Airbus pilots, it leverages cockpit commonality for smooth transitions between the A320 and A330.
